Dairy

Feeding wet acidic grass silage to dairy cows can cause problems such as acidosis, laminitis and poor feed intake resulting in low milk yield, low milk protein and fertility problems. Supplementing with acidic feeds such as brewer's grains can make matters worse.

Valuable feeds such as cereals, whether fed rolled, crimped or combined with wet grass silage can increase acid loading in the rumen.

Feeding live yeast in any of these circumstances helps to remove lactic acid from the rumen, as well as preventing the over production of lactic acid, thereby stabilising rumen pH and avoiding acidosis.

Biotal has developed a range of live yeast products to suit every situation.

  • SC Gold with the live yeast I-1077 for improvements in fibre digestibility and reduced acid loading in the rumen
  • SC Platinum where there is a need for selenium enhancement (eg maize silage)
  • SC Toxisorb for mycotoxin problems
  • SC Emerald with natural plant extract to improve protein capture and utilisation
  • SC Original for use in organic systems

Biotal microbind is also available as a non live yeast solution to mycotoxin problems.
