What is GastroGold?
GastroGold is a unique feed supplement that is derived from soy flour. The soy flour undergoes a specially developed fermentation process with a bacteria 'Lactobacillus delbrueckii', which is subsequently killed. During this fermentation process, substances known as 'nutricines' are produced, which together with the dead Lactobacillus delbrueckii have a positive effect on gastric mucosal health.

I have horses in race training will GastroGold help?
Horses in training are at a heightened risk of gastric ulcers due to their diet and management regime, which is related to their traditionally low fibre and starch rich diet. Whilst GastroGold should not be regarded as a cure or treatment for gastric ulcers, it can be used beneficially to help maintain normal gastric health in horses at risk from gastric ulceration.

Is GastroGold suitable for horses competing under FEI or HRA rules?
Each batch of GastroGold is tested for the absence of the naturally occurring prohibited substances (NOPS) caffeine, theobromine, hyoscine, hordenine, morphine and atropine before being released for sale.

My horse has been treated for gastric ulcers can I feed GastroGold once the course of treatment has finished?
There is evidence to suggest that in horses that are susceptible to gastric ulcers, ulceration can reoccur once veterinary treatment has finished. GastroGold can be used on an ongoing basis in conjunction with sympathetic management to help maintain normal gastric health.

If I use GastroGold do I still need to feed Equine Gold?
As Equine Gold functions primarily in the hindgut and GastroGold acts in the stomach, it is not strictly necessary to feed the two together from the perspective of gastric health. However there may be other benefits to feeding both products in some situations, for example, in performance horses.

Isn't GastroGold just another antacid supplement?
Whilst GastroGold may have some antacid properties, it relies on the additional action of the 'nutricines' to maintain bloodflow and bicarbonate secretion within the stomach, as well as their localised anti-inflammatory action, which all helps to maintain gastric health.

Can GastroGold be given to foals?
Yes GastroGold can be fed to young foals and can be particularly beneficial during weaning or in orphan foals where the risk of ulceration is increased. GastroGold comes in the form of small palatable pellets, which can be easily eaten and digested in foals at an early age.

If GastroGold contains bacteria does it work in the hind gut as well as the stomach?
Following the fermentation involved in the production of GastroGold, the bacteria Lactobacillus delbrueckii is killed and so it is unlikely to have any significant ongoing effect within the digestive tract.

Can I feed the daily amount in one feed?
Due to the proposed action of GastroGold, ideally the daily recommended intake should be split between more than one meal.
